WORKS. Work on the Cockburn Street fire station has started. Valued at $3.8 million, this project will benefit from financial assistance from the Government of Quebec in the amount of $1,196,600, via the Municipal Infrastructure Improvement and Construction Program (PRACIM) of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

Let us remember from the outset that these major renovations aim to modernize the installations dating from 1963, but above all, to significantly reduce the risk of cancer among firefighters.

The work includes the installation of mechanical ventilation, which will improve air exchange and the addition of a capture system at the source of diesel fumes from vehicles.

The layout of the barracks has also been redesigned to create distinct safety zones: a red zone for decontamination of equipment after interventions, a yellow zone for preparing equipment for the next mission and a green zone, guaranteeing an environment healthy.

“The major work announced at the Cockburn Street barracks is excellent news, on the one hand for the citizens of Drummondville, but also for those of L’Avenir, Saint-Majorique-de-Grantham and Wickham, who can count on the professionalism of the Drummondville fire and civil security service. I congratulate the municipal administration for prioritizing the health and well-being of its firefighters by establishing a state-of-the-art work environment with innovative technologies,” underlined the minister responsible for the Center region. from Quebec and MP for Johnson, André Lamontagne.

“The modernization and expansion of fire station 1 in the city of Drummondville represents a crucial milestone in strengthening fire safety in our region. By supporting projects like this, we are investing in essential infrastructure that allows our firefighters to intervene more efficiently and safely, while ensuring better protection for all citizens,” said the MP for Drummond. –-Francs, Sébastien Schneeberger.

This work, which will last until October 2025, will have no impact on barracks operations. (CGM)
