The individual who is still detained and who refused to have his preliminary investigation held is awaiting a psychological evaluation from the Philippe-Pinel Institute. His lawyer, Me Nathalie Roy, requested that her client’s criminal responsibility be determined.
In this specific case, it is a question of determining whether Ahmed May was aware of the actions at the time of the facts alleged in the case.
In the event that specialists come to the conclusion that the accused was not aware of the facts during the events, the trial will still take place. In the event of conviction, the person’s file is entrusted to the Administrative Tribunal of Quebec.
The alleged perpetrator of the knife attack was arrested by Saguenay police officers on December 20, 2023. The arrest took place in the courtyard of the La Belle et La Bœuf restaurant on Talbot Boulevard in Chicoutimi.
According to what it was possible to learn at the time, Ahmed May grabbed a knife inside the restaurant. He then allegedly inflicted very serious injuries on at least two other employees of the restaurant.
The police managed to immobilize Ahmed May outside the building.
