This Thursday evening the municipal council was held in Metz, a highly anticipated council. After hours of discussions and voting, we retained a central question: that of the budget. This is what we know about its future.
More debate was expected, but the budget changes were ultimately voted on within minutes. Only representatives of the left-wing opposition groups (United for Metz) and the RN (Le Bon Sens pour Metz) opposed. Françoise Grolet (RN) accused “avoidable” expenses, citing the work on the Serpentine, and the investment in a mosque. Jérémy Roques (EELV) for his part denounced “unjust demands”, and expressed the wish to find solutions for more financial justice. The mayor, François Grosdidier, retorted to the two elected officials that they had “not understood what inflation was”, then targeting Françoise Grolet in particular, accusing her of making a “trial of intent” against him. and almost begging her to stop this “obsession with Muslims.” » The opposition’s arguments were not enough to counter the adoption of the budget changes.
The budget modification is adopted, what will change?
Concerning the main budget, the most important adjustment concerns expenses related to IT equipment. Among other things, this includes the progress of projects such as the swimming pool information system, or work on storage bays. The total adjustment need for these projects is just over one and a half million euros.
Among the new expenses, there are 66,000 euros for the payment of a subsidy to the work of Saint-Etienne Cathedral, 55,000€ for the greening of schoolyards, or even 300,000€ for the renovation of the stadium from ES Metz. These spending credit needs are covered by increases in revenue, including property tax revenue, which has increased by one million euros.
At the end of the deliberations and the vote, here is what should be remembered: “In total, the 2024 main budget sees its real appropriations increase by €10.089 million in expenditure and revenue, and its order appropriations increase by 2.259 million €. The transfer from the operating section to the investment section is increased by €1.259 million. »
