Clint Capela and the Hawks achieved a rare feat this season in the NBA on Wednesday: beating the Cavaliers.
Atlanta also won on the Cleveland floor (135-124) to inflict on the best team in the League only its second defeat in this 2024/25 financial year.
Cleveland, which had won 17 of its first 18 matches including the 10 played so far at home, nevertheless quickly took a 19-length lead in this meeting (27-8 after 6’24). But the Cavaliers did not manage to drive home the point against the Hawks, who nevertheless remained on three consecutive defeats.
Clint Capela did not weigh in on this match, settling for 2 points on 1 of 7 shooting. The Geneva interior nevertheless captured 9 rebounds and provided 2 assists in less than 20′ spent on the floor. The man of the match was Hawks leader Trae Young, author of 22 assists – his record – and 20 points.
Note that the two teams will meet again on Friday, in Atlanta, in a match this time also counting for the NBA Cup. The Hawks (2 wins-1 loss) can still hope to reach the knockout stage. But only four teams per Conference will advance to the quarter-finals.
A 13th defeat in a row for the Wizards
No exploit, however, for Valais ‘rookie’ Kyshawn George and the Wizards, who suffered a 13th loss in a row, the 15th in total in 17 games. Washington lost 121-96 at home against James Harden’s Los Angeles Clippers (43 points). George scored 2 points (1/6 shooting) and 4 rebounds in 26′ of play.
