The Food Bank plays a key role in the fight against food insecurity throughout France, and welcomes an ever-increasing number of people each year in a context of increasing difficulties for the most vulnerable. Needs are increasing and the collections organized last weekend made it possible, as every year, to reach an audience in the heart of commercial areas in order to collect a significant portion of foodstuffs, representing around 10% of annual needs.
Almost as much as in 2023
The Roanne Food Bank will redistribute the goods to various associations such as the Red Cross, the Mutual Aid Committee, Phare en Roannais, Secours catholique, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Roanne, Charlieu, Régny, Le Coteau), the Foyer vers l'Avenir, the Association of Protestant and Evangelical Families of Roannais (Afper), Saint-Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, the Grocery Store social welfare of students, and the CCAS of Mably and Riorges.
Jean-Yves Faure, vice-president of the Loire Food Bank and president for the Roanne sector, deplores the drop in donations from supermarkets, mainly due to the sale at low prices of end-of-life products, whereas these were given before. However, this weekend's result is equivalent or almost equivalent to that of 2023 when 35 tonnes were collected.
