Five individuals, including four members of the same family, were arrested on Wednesday by elements of the prefectural service of the judicial police of Oujda, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), for suspicion of involvement in a criminal network of international gold trafficking.
According to a security source, the suspects, aged between 26 and 68 years old, were arrested during a security operation carried out in the city of Oujda, and the searches carried out in three houses operated in the same city resulted in the seizure of 87 small gold bars, with a total weight of 33,130 kilograms, in addition to large sums of money in national and European currencies, suspected of coming from this criminal activity.
The searches carried out as part of this case also led to the seizure of two cars, a motorcycle, bladed weapons and an electronic scale, suspected of being used in this criminal act, specifies the same source.
The suspects were placed in police custody for the judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of identifying the ramifications of this criminal activity and arresting other people possibly involved. .
