On the occasion of the reception of Montpellier HSC, AS Saint-Étienne achieved its third best attendance of the season. With a real constant since the two kops were opened, the attendance systematically exceeds 30,000 spectators.
This is further proof of the popular resurgence around the club, in the wake of the race for promotion in the second half of last season. Geoffroy-Guichard would even be a little too narrow with the absence of balconies which greatly reduces its total capacity. During this 12th day of the French Ligue 1 Championship, with 33,008 spectators, 35 fewer than against Racing Club de Strasbourg, the Forez club once again achieved the fourth best attendance of the day.
With Geoffroy-Guichard's current capacity, AS Saint-Étienne could not have claimed to compete with Lens (38,223) and even less with Lille and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite everything, ASSE is very probably having the best year in its history in terms of attendance. This is the tenth time this year that the club has crossed the 30,000 spectator mark during a match at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. Without a doubt, this total will reach eleven with the last match which is announced in the Cauldron against Olympique de Marseille.
Crowds at Geoffroy-Guichard this season:
- Saint-Étienne – Le Havre: 16,958 spectators (Kop Nord and Kop Sud closed)
- Saint-Étienne – Lille: 22,144 spectators (Kop Sud closed)
- Saint-Étienne – Auxerre: 31,445 spectators
- Saint-Étienne – Lens: 36,832 spectators
- Saint-Étienne – Strasbourg: 33,043 spectators
- Saint-Étienne – Montpellier: 33,008 spectators
