If investigations are underway for search for causes of deatha disturbing coincidence marks the investigation, opened by the police, after the explosion of a pavilionthis Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in Saint-Loup-de-Naud (Seine-et-Marne). The explosion occurred around 4:15 a.m., in a house located on rue Serge-Veau. THE human toll is heavy with a 31-year-old woman who diedafter being found in the rubble by emergency services. A 34 year old man, seriously injuredhad managed to escape from the house. He was rushed to the Georges-Pompidou hospital in Paris. But this file takes on a strange tone, in light of of a tragedy that had occurred in the villagein 2017.
Former owner of destroyed house died in car explosion in 2017
Michel Charbonniera former municipal councilor, died in 2017 in the explosion of his car which was near the school. The tragedy also cost the life of his 5-year-old grandson. “The previous owner of the house used explosives, this is an element that came to light during the investigation which was opened after the explosion of this car,” confides Jean-Michel Bourlèsthe public prosecutor of Melun.
According to our information, the investigation was closed in July 2024, after several years of investigations by the Versailles judicial police. Investigators were never able to identify the cause of this explosion. “However, there was no evidence to suggest that this was a voluntary act,” cautions the public prosecutor.
On-site mine clearance services
Given the sensitivity of the former owner's profile, demining services are currently on site “to ensure that there are no other dangers”, he continues. According to Gilbert Dal Pan, the mayor of Saint-Loup-de-Naud, other homes were damaged by the explosion. Local residents were also temporarily accommodated in the village hall and in a gîte, the Haute-Maison farm.
“Around 4:30 a.m., we welcomed around thirty local residents who had to evacuate their homes while firefighters and deminers intervened,” confides Tom Nguyen Vanthe owner of the lodge. As the road was closed, they could not go to the village hall provided by the municipality, so we opened the doors of our establishment to them. »
Among the evacuated residents, children, elderly people and young couples, pulled out of bed by the explosion. “Overall, people were very calm, but one person felt unwell,” says the good Samaritan. It was the backlash, she was very anxious. We offered them breakfast. They needed to talk, because this tragedy brings back bad memories for the residents. »
Unanswered questions
An allusion to the death of Michel Charbonnier. “This gentleman was a former career firefighter and collector of explosives,” Tom Nguyen Van believes. When he died, his house was inspected, before being sold to the young couple who were victims of last night's explosion. So obviously, people wonder if explosives could still have been buried under the house? And the question remains why the explosion occurred? »
As for the Melun public prosecutor's office, they do not confirm the fact that the former owner was a collector of explosives, only “that he had the opportunity to use them”, without however specifying the uses. The police investigation has only just begun and should make it possible to resolve all the gray areas in this case.
