Two Vietnamese writers, Nguyên Binh Phuong and Nguyên Môt, were awarded the 2022-2023 Southeast Asian Writers’ Award (SEA Write Award) by the Thai royal family and the Thai Writers’ Association, a reserved prize to outstanding writers and poets from Southeast Asian countries.

The Gala honoring the award winners was solemnly held at the W Bangkok Hotel on the evening of November 25, with the participation of 17 writers and poets from nine countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines , Vietnam and Thailand).
Nguyên Binh Phuong (born 1965 in Thai Nguyên) received the 2022 Southeast Asian Writers’ Prize for his novel A poor example (A trivial example), which was also awarded by the Vietnamese Writers Association in 2021. He has published six novels, translated into English, French and Korean.
Nguyên Môt (born in 1964 in Quang Nam) received the 2023 Southeast Asian Literature Prize for his novel From the sixth to the ninth hour (From the sixth hour to the ninth hour), who won the Vietnamese Writers Association Prize in 2023 and the Dong Nai Arts and Letters Prize. He is the author of nearly 20 books in many different genres, including novels, memoirs, documentary screenplays.
Considered one of the region’s most prestigious literary events, the Southeast Asian Writers’ Awards were launched by the Thai royal family in 1979 to recognize and honor the works of contemporary poets and writers from ASEAN countries. After 43 editions, the Southeast Asian Writers’ Awards are now fully represented by all ten ASEAN countries.
