Match: Bayern/PSG (1-0), individual performances

There was no miracle in Munich and PSG logically lost at the Allianz Arena (0-1), not helped by a long end to the match at 10 against 11. A look back at the individual performances of the Parisians on a case by case basis.

Safonov: Quickly called upon by Bayern well into the match, the Russian initially delayed the deadline, notably with a big save against Musiala, before precipitating the fall of his team on a corner where he missed his intervention with his fists after a little disruptive number from Musiala which he has to get rid of without trembling. The damage was done and, despite several more saves in the second half including an impressive one against Musiala, Safonov had missed his match because a goalkeeper error inevitably ruined his match. On the foot, he frankly didn't shine with his precision either, returning a lot of balls to the opponent.

Judge: The Moroccan finished the game well, notably because Gnabry was a mediocre replacement, but the holder Coman was on the other hand a nightmare for the Moroccan side who was dropped a number of times which was embarrassing to say the least, as the French begins its actions stopped or started. And even when he went up, Hakimi was taken over by the blue international, totally dominating in front of him. Once again, the technical waste with the ball from the Parisian right-back in a match like this calls into question his ability to make the difference at a very high level.

Marquinhos: The captain quickly found himself acting as the firefighter on duty, but above all he was overwhelmed from the start. The speed of the German attacks was too much for him in the first half and Kane dominated him in most duels, allowing his team to advance up the field. Marquinhos hung on for the long haul and was a little better in the second half, making several notable interventions, but his first period showed a player overwhelmed by events.

There : With Nuno Mendes in a slightly different position than usual on the left side, the Ecuadorian seemed to lack his bearings and this was seen in the first half, with diving behind his back from the opposing attackers after having taken him out of its area. His second half with more responsibility against Kane allowed him to be more interesting, winning duels, but he was also late regularly and his performance with the ball did not improve.

Nuno Mendes: Another complicated Champions League match for the Parisian left-back. Defensively, he struggled again, even though Sané wasn't having a great day, and was often on the edge. On the goal conceded, he also lost Musiala. But perhaps the most annoying part of his game is his offensive performance. For once, Mendes had a lot of freedom and he didn't do much with it. In his camp, he was hampered by pressing, showing real irregularity on a technical level, while he was very clumsy in attacking, getting lost in solitary rushes without head or tail. In the end, a player who gave himself until the end, but did not help his team in any way by being totally disconnected from them.

Vitinha: The PSG midfield sentry is probably the player that the Germans had the most difficulty in pressing but this is the only part of his match that was truly positive. Defensively, as always, he had virtually no impact and did not protect his defense in any way. But the disappointment perhaps came even more from his use of the ball. Very responsible for the construction, Vitinha practically never found the slightest solution to advance the Parisian game in the first half, and barely more in the second. He has a few good sequences in the second half, making better use of the width, but the results are very poor, knowing that he only exists with the ball at his feet.

Zaire-Emery: Positioned on the right side between Hakimi and Dembélé, the young midfielder took the full brunt of the Bavarian intensity in the duels at the start of the game. After a little while of adaptation, he started to get by and was able to provide a little defensive benefit. But his biggest concern has been his use of the ball. Regularly in difficulty against pressing, he was particularly weak when approaching the opponent's goal, whether in his passes or his shots, his missed opportunity being a first turning point in the match.

Lee replaced him for the last half hour and the Korean was interesting in a role on the right side between those of Dembélé and Zaire-Emery. He certainly didn't have the drive to overwhelm but his technical accuracy was appreciable and he combined well with his partners. Also note some well-taken set pieces.

João Neves: The Portuguese had a particularly difficult role to read from a tactical point of view, a sort of central midfielder in front of Vitinha, and he suffered enormously in the first half by simply being nowhere: absent in recovery, nowhere to be found in creation, only two well-felt strikes signaled his presence, including a superb volley. He was a little more useful and present in the second half but, like Vitinha, he ultimately never really knew how to advance the Parisian game in decisive areas. He at least finished the game well.

Fabian Ruiz : Surprise of the starting eleven, the Spaniard suffered in the midfield against the power of the Germans and this caused numerous losses of the ball, including one which almost cost dearly at the break. But unlike the other midfielders, he is the only one to have been able to bring accuracy offensively and is at the base of all the best Parisian chances: it is he who sends Dembélé to the goal and it is also he who crosses Zaire-Emery then Dembélé. Too bad to have lacked so much influence a notch lower.

Asensio replaced him for the last minutes and he changed nothing in the scenario of the match.

Dembélé: In a more central role than usual, his first balls played a little too fancifully had already drawn the Dembélé of bad days. A few missed shots later, this was confirmed and the attacker did not shine by choosing the individual card too many times. Completely absent in the imbalance, still unreliable in front of the goals, he finished digging his grave, and especially that of his team, with an expulsion which may seem severe but which is the result of the poor management of his match and the first yellow card received in a stupid way.

Barcola: Positioned as a left striker, it is not this match which will reassure him about his ability to make an impact in the Champions League, quite the contrary. He certainly suffered from the real lack of balls reaching him and, despite the few cartridges, it was he who superbly shifted Ruiz on the Zaire-Emery opportunity, but Barcola also did too little. Almost no duel won, on the ground or in the air on Safonov's clearances, weak activity overall and the very frustrating impression of seeing the young attacker suffer the match and sink as it goes along.

Gonçalo Ramos replaced him for the last 20 minutes and he appeared rather physically sharp and quick to press. On the other hand, he had difficulty being found even if he provided a certain presence in the penalty area. The important thing for him was to play again, now it's time to ramp up.
