Luka Modric gave an unforgettable moment to Ivan Scepina, a young 18-year-old Croatian footballer hospitalized after a terrible fall. The 39-year-old Real Madrid midfielder sent his prestigious 2018 Ballon d’Or to Krapinske Toplice hospital, where the young man is struggling to return to normal life.
Ivan Scepina, player for MNE Kurilovec in the Croatian third division, has been hospitalized for several months after a five-meter fall in June. The young man had fallen from the roof of his house and suffered a fractured skull, dislocated jaw and partial paralysis of his left side. Hospitalized, Ivan continues to fight to return to a life as normal as possible, but everything is not easy every day.
Luka Modric wanted to bring him some comfort during this ordeal. He therefore sent him his Ballon d’Or, won in 2018, so that the young player could grab it and take a photo with it. The captain of the Croatian selection also gave him a Champions League ball and a signed jersey.
“I wanted him to have this Ballon d’Or for a while. Maybe it will help him stay strong during his recovery. In this difficult situation, it was the least I could do”Modric told local media. Ivan also received support from other Croatian football figures, such as Joško Gvardiol, Andrej Kramarić and Šime Vrsaljko, who contributed to a prize pool that has already reached 250,000 euros. This money will be used to finance intensive care, including robotic rehabilitation essential to his recovery.
