The USA team has officially announced the arrival of Javier Mascherano, who left the Argentina national under-20 team to join the Major League Soccer (MLS) club.
As had already been anticipated, it was confirmed this Tuesday: Messi’s Inter Miami will be led by an Argentine coach. The club officially welcomed Javier Mascherano, who is moving from the Argentina U-20 national team to the MLS franchise.
“Inter Miami is pleased to announce the appointment of Argentine and FC Barcelona legend Javier Mascherano as head coach, signing him to a contract through the 2027 Major League Soccer season. The Argentine arrives after a period as coach of the Argentina U-20 and Olympic national teams, and will assume his coaching responsibilities at Inter Miami after receiving his working documentation,” said the club, which also has stars like Messi and Luis Suarez.

Mascherano celebrated the deal and pledged to work diligently to replicate the success of his predecessor, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, who resigned after winning two titles due to personal issues.
“Leading a club like Inter Miami is an honor for me, and a privilege that I will strive to put to good use. I was attracted by the undeniable ambition of the organization and the infrastructure it has to support her,” Mascherano expressed. “I look forward to working with everyone at Inter Miami to help the club reach new heights and provide fans with unforgettable moments to boot.”
The former midfielder/defender has a limited coaching career. Mascherano began his coaching journey with the Argentina U-20 national team in December 2021. Although he is starting at a club level, he arrives in the United States with considerable support and confidence.
“This position requires an experienced individual to maximize our unique collection of talent, from our global superstars to our young players, our budding internationals, and everything in between. Javier brings unrivaled experience from his career, having played on the biggest stages in the world and trained at the international youth level,” said Jorge Mas, owner manager of Inter Miami.
“He has the blend of skills and experience we were looking for, having even worked directly with coaches like Tomás Avilés, Facundo Farías, Federico Redondo, and Benjamin Cremaschi. We believe Javier is an important addition to our club as we “Let’s continue our quest to be among the world’s elite, setting a new standard for soccer in North America,” added Mas.
Co-owner David Beckham and president of football operations Raúl Sanllehí approved Mas’s words. “Throughout his career as one of the best players in the world and as an experienced coach, Javier has consistently demonstrated what makes him exceptional: unwavering determination coupled with knowledge, instinct, and an understanding to go with it. We are very excited to have him at the helm of our team,” said the former England star.
“As we continue to aim high as an organization, I am delighted to welcome Javier and his family to our team so that we can build this ambitious project together,” concluded Raúl Sanllehí.
