The 10-year-old girl, who remained trapped in a fire in an Airbnb apartment in Furdenheim (Bas-Rhin), died this Monday, November 25, 2024, reports L’Alsace.
Stuck in an attic room, she was rescued by firefighters who extracted her through the roof window. After receiving first aid on site, she was transported in absolute emergency to Strasbourg hospital. Plunged into a coma, she died a few hours later.
A family coming to spend the weekend
The fire broke out on the night of Sunday, November 24 in a house divided into several Airbnb apartments. The family, originally from Chaumont (Haute-Marne), had come to spend the weekend in Alsace in this furnished tourist accommodation decorated on the theme of Harry Potter.
The parents, awakened by the smoke around 4:50 a.m., managed to escape the flames by jumping out of the window with three of their children, while the victim was on the upper floor. All were hospitalized in shock.
In total, around sixty firefighters and around twenty engines were dispatched to the scene. While investigations continue, a fire expert, sent on Sunday, clarified that the fire probably started from an electric radiator located on the ground floor, according to the local newspaper.
