Organized by the beekeeping development association in Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Adana), for its 15the edition, the New Aquitaine honey flavor competition, which was held in Saintes on November 15, highlighted exceptional honeys for the 2024 harvest. That day, after a tasting and evaluation session at blind by 50 jurors, 30 of the 170 regional honeys presented were medalists.
And what was the surprise for Cédric Corazza, breeder-beekeeper in Courcoury, and his wife Alice, when they learned that, out of three varieties presented, they were awarded two gold medals, for their chestnut honey and that rapeseed.
Originally from Gers, Cédric first worked in masonry and old buildings where he met his future wife Alice Lung. Saintaise and Courcouroise at heart, she then worked in heritage restoration. Then, it was by chance and through a common passion that after training as beekeepers, they decided to leave their respective professions to create in 2019, Les Apiers d'Aliènor.
A bee farm located at 8 rue des Ytropes, in Courcoury, where visitors can taste six varieties of honey, sweets and beer from their honey production and who can also live with Alice, an unusual experience in costume. beekeeper to find himself at the heart of life. Where flowers, bees and men meet.
For Cédric, the working days are not counted in hours but vary according to the rhythm of life of his bees and the flowers. Over the seasons, its 250 hives, scattered within a radius of 30 kilometers around the farm, are then moved to Haute Charente while others forage on the plateau of a thousand cows in Corrèze. He would like to equip himself with handling equipment to lighten his workload during periods of transhumance and thus continue to produce exceptional honeys, validated and rewarded by his peers.
