Four years after putting away his skis for good, Martin Fourcade recovers a sixth Olympic title. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced in a press release, published this Tuesday, November 26, that it had rejected Evgeny Ustyugov’s appeal. Consequence: all of the Russian’s results obtained between 2010 and 2014 are canceled, including his gold medal in the mass start at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, which therefore goes to the French biathlete.
Anomalies in his biological passport
That day, Fourcade had a tricky start to the race, before gradually gaining ground and failing ten seconds behind Ustyugov, who was unable to convince the CAS of his innocence. The Russian was first suspended four years ago, and his appeal was rejected on Tuesday. Anomalies were found in his biological passport, with an abnormal hemoglobin level. He still has a slim possibility of appeal.
“The CAS Appeals Chamber upheld the findings of the CAS Anti-Doping Division (ADD), which determined that Mr. Ustyugov committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADV) based on anomalies identified in his biological passport of athlete (PBA) »it is specified in the press release.
