Prayon striker Alain Czagiel has died

This is very sad news that reaches us at the editorial office. Alain Czagiel, a formidable striker who marked the history of regional football, has died at the age of 58.

“You left us too soon… your fight was short but intense! We love you Dad”announced his son Jérémie on social media.

In the 90s, when spectators still travelled in large numbers to watch their favourite team’s matches, one player regularly made headlines on the region’s pitches, wrote L’Avenir in December 2016 in an article devoted to the family. With his irascible character and unwavering will, Alain Czagiel was a striker feared by all his opponents. A certified artificer from Prayon, he took the road to Panorama when RCS Verviers regained its place in division 3. Alongside boys like Claudy Dardenne, alias Rackham le Rouche, Youri Selak, or Nedzad Duracak, he scored around twenty goals for the Vert et Blanc. Before his Verviers days, the striker had also played for Verlaine, Franchimont and La Calamine. And it was at Poulseur that he ended his playing career, before taking charge of the youngsters at Sprimont.

For those who wish to pay their last respects, Alain is resting at the Bemelmans funeral center, grand rue 41, 4870 Trooz, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

A moment of reflection will also be possible on Friday at 8:15 a.m. at the Welkenraedt crematorium.

“Dad didn’t want flowers or wreaths, but rather a donation to the Léon Frédérick foundation of the CHU.

With the reference “in memory of Mr. Alain Czagiel”continues his son Jérémie.

To his family and loved ones, Avenir Verviers presents its most sincere condolences.
