Xavier Bertrand flies to Gilles Bouleau: “Do you think I came to drop off a CV?”

On Monday, July 1, Xavier Bertrand was invited to the 8 p.m. news broadcast on TF1. Facing Gilles Bouleau, the president of the Hauts-de-France regional council was somewhat offended after being questioned about his political ambitions, while the dissolution of the National Assembly decided by Emmanuel Macron allowed the RN to win even more voters than during the European elections in the first round of the legislative elections.

First stating loudly and clearly that the President of the Republic is responsible for the rise of the extreme right in France, five days before the second round of elections, Xavier Bertrand called for the establishment of a possible “temporary government” which has already existed in the past. The objective would therefore be, according to him, to avoid seeing Jordan Bardella’s party or the New Popular Front storm the National Assembly, plunging the country into a potential inability to govern with the President’s team. He thus assured that only the “Republican candidates and independents can change the game.” Subsequently, the journalist bounced back on this decision put in place “just after World War II” by asking his guest if he would do “part of a provisional government of public safety”.

The President’s Crazy Bet

Without further ado, the 59-year-old politician rebuffed his interlocutor: “You think I came here to send you a CV because I would be looking for a job?” A little irritated by the question asked by Gilles Bouleau, Xavier Bertrand replied: “You said it yourself, just now. We are at a historic moment. And if we do not understand that we must get rid of political games, that politics is not a game.” Following on from this, Vanessa Williot’s husband critically said: “And that is what I reproach Mr Macron for, who bet on this dissolution… We do not bet on the people, we do not play the country a bit at Russian roulette, we do not play that. […] Everyone will have to take responsibility.”
