Friday was particularly busy as the Magnymontois faced two unknown teams. The Gouverneurs du Noroit 2 were the first to win over Caron Industries by a score of 2-1. Trailing 2-0 in the third, captain Vincent Boulet reduced the score to just one goal, but it wasn’t enough. The lack of opportunism cost Montmagny dearly as they dominated the Gouverneurs in shots with 29 to 21.

Close match against Granby

A few hours later, the Granby Vics took advantage of a controversial decision in the final third to escape with a 4-3 victory. Caron Industrie, however, played catch-up hockey throughout the game, leveling the score three times with goals from Jean-Christophe Coulombe, Bryan Chabot and Xavier Paré. While the tie lasted until the end of the third, Caron goalkeeper Gabriel Tremblay stopped the puck leading to the official’s whistle. At the same time, the latter was pushed into the net and the referee finally awarded the goal allowing Granby to end the game and destroy Montmagny’s chances of advancing to the next round. Head coach Martin Guérette was also suspended for three games after expressing dismay to officials.

End on a good note

The Magnymontois finished their tournament strong with a 4-1 victory over Assurancia de Beauce-Sud. The Beaucerons found the back of the net in the second minute of the match. Caron Industries did not wait long to respond. Five minutes later, Xavier Paré scored his second of the tournament. The Côte-du-Sud representatives only looked ahead afterward by scoring three other goals, including a second in this meeting for Paré.

Caron Industries will try to continue this momentum on Sunday, facing the leader of the Loubier circuit rankings, Expert de Saint-Romuald.
