When the public dislikes a player, it is generally very difficult for him to get back on track. But through hard work, Killian Sardella transformed the fears and mockery of Lotto Park into applause.
At 22, Killian Sardella has already lived several lives in Anderlecht. When he had barely turned 17, he was bombarded as a starter by Vincent Kompany. A time that he remembers with emotion on the set of La Tribune.
“It was a bit of a poisoned chalice. It’s not easy to come back when the team wasn’t working, with a new coach, new leaders, a new system but I don’t regret anything. I can only thank Vincent Kompany for getting me started at that moment. It allowed me to build a character, to experience difficult things, of course, but it means that today, I am ready for anything” explains Sardella.
The Devils, a consecration after years of hardship
He experienced some difficult times. Particularly when his performances were affected by compartment syndrome, an increased pressure that he felt in his leg and which was only later diagnosed. “I suffered a lot… the criticism in the media, the newspapers, the whistles from the public. It was difficult. When I see that, I tell myself that I have come a long way and I have progressed a lot. I have learned a lot thanks to all that” he continues.
Before continuing: “It shaped my mind. It’s a bit thanks to that that I am here today. How do I get out of this negative spiral? I was lucky to be very well surrounded by family, loved ones but also the staff helped me a lot at the club.
Today he is relieved to have gotten out of this bad situation: “I had ups and downs, especially the start of my career with those first three complicated years, there were also injuries. And then, the rebirth with the arrival of Brian Riemer. Today, we will say that I am on the upward slope.”
