A fire broke out at 1:30 p.m. in a building located on avenue Lossburg, in Anse (Rhône), this Monday. Around twenty fire trucks rushed to the scene and eventually brought the fire under control.

A large fire broke out in a building on Avenue Lossburg in Anse (Rhône), this Monday, November 25 at the beginning of the afternoon, BFM learned from the firefighters.

It was within a sports hall of approximately 2,000m2 that the fire first spread. The flames then affected other buildings in the surrounding area. Approximately 5,500 m2 were set ablaze in total.

The smoke spread for several kilometers around and was visible from the A6 motorway.

An all-night surveillance phase

No casualties have been reported, but around forty residents of the area had to be evacuated due to the power of the fire. The supermarket located near the scene of the disaster was also closed.

Nearly 80 firefighters, divided into around twenty trucks, went to the site and managed to bring the fire under control during the afternoon. Their mission was complicated by violent gusts of wind, which nevertheless made it possible to quickly evacuate the smoke from the surrounding area.

“The choice was made not to block the highway. Given the strong wind, there was a strong dilution of the fumes. The subject of toxicity was taken into account (…), we did not noted no trace”, explains Colonel Lionel Chabert, commander of the rescue operations.

Around thirty firefighters, as well as 13 engines, will remain on site during the night, in order to completely extinguish the last hot spots and to carry out a surveillance phase.
