This Sunday, November 24 at 11:49 a.m., a fire started in a flower pot located behind a residence on Black Street, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or significant damage following this incident which required the intervention of the local fire safety service.

« Everything indicates that the fire started due to cigarette butts which were thrown into a flower pot. They caught fire from the wind blowing outside. Fortunately, the flames did not spread to the residence. Thanks to the intervention of the sappers, they were quickly brought under control without causing too much damage. We remind you that, just like ashes from a fireplace, it is important to dispose of cigarette butts safely and responsibly to avoid incidents of this nature. », Indicates Christian Poulin of the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Fire Safety Department.

According to information obtained by Néomédia Valleyfield, furniture that was on the rear balcony of the residence, near the source of the fire, was damaged following the intervention.
