Yechiel Leiter, had indicated that the “Israeli recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara will strengthen security, stability and development in North Africa.”
The Israeli government approved, on Sunday, November 24, the appointment of Yechiel Leiter, a great defender of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, as ambassador to the United States, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The government unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Yechiel Leiter as ambassador to the United States”announces the ministry press release.
Mr. Yechiel affirmed in 2023 that recognition by Israel of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara “strengthens regional and global security, weakens terrorist and separatist movements as well as Iranian penetration in the West African region.” He recalled in official statements “Morocco's strong involvement in efforts to combat terrorism and its effective contribution to thwarting numerous terrorist operations which particularly targeted European countries.”
He also added that Israel's recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara “will strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries and increase the level of trust, which constitutes a very important element to develop exemplary relations in various economic, social, tourist areas, among others.”
Yechiel Leiter, 65, former advisor to Benjamin Netanyahu, is of American origin. He is close to Donald Trump's American Republican Party. Mr. Leiter is currently a strategy advisor, notably for Israeli think tanks. Previously he held various positions, notably in the Israeli administration, notably at the head of the port authority.
Yechiel Leiter is due to take office in Washington after President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated in January 2025.
