The town of Keskastel lost one of its institutions this weekend: the L'Alsace restaurant-hotel was the victim of a violent fire. If catering encounters difficulties, this was not the case for this address popular with residents of the area. Today, all that remains of a restaurant with good food and good humor is rubble and good memories.
Sound No. 1 – The L'Alsace restaurant-hotel partly demolished after a violent fire
It's heartbreaking, it was my baby, it was my workplace. It was a friendly place.
The words are difficult to pronounce manager Talip Yildirim. This Monday morning, he witnessed the stripping of his restaurant, threatening to collapse onto the public highway.
We removed the leaning wall. There was a risk of collapse at the neighbor's house. Afterwards, we went up, we cut the beams, we turned the tip and we tore out up to the level of the windows. We do everything that is imminent risk and remove the danger.
It is the Beck company who is in charge of the workwith the support of the Sarre-Union firefighters to extinguish the flames. 15 people find themselves unemployed, even though the restaurant had just been renovated in 2020, to the tune of 150,000 euros. The hotel part had also just been redone.
We have refreshed the establishment to welcome our customers in better conditions. I think of all the customers, all the employees who are by my side every day.
A real blow for the whole village according to Mayor Gabriel Glath.
It's a disaster, a real disaster for our village. A human catastrophe also for the owners. The town hall will do everything to support this trade.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday and was brought under control early in the afternoon. Rue du Faubourg must remain closed normally until Tuesday evening included to secure the premises. The cause of the fire is not known.
It will take many months for Alsace to recover, but solidarity is already underway. During the intervention of the firefighters (more than fifty from the entire department), local residents, associations and businesses, including L'Alsace Les Emportés, provided them with food and drink.
