We couldn’t miss the biggest metal festival in France, with more than 180 bands on the bill to discover over 4 days less than 3 hours by train from Paris! Going out in Paris means getting away from the capital for a few days in order to let you experience the 17th edition of Hellfest as if you were there. A look back at 10 selected moments from this Sunday, June 30, 2024, the final day of the festival.
All good things must come to an end. Unfortunately for the metalheadsthe Hellfest is no exception to the rule. This Sunday, June 30th, marked the last day of the Hellfest2024 edition. While fatigue was clearly visible on the faces of some, others were still in great shape to experience this final day, notably marked by the performances of Nova Twinsof Blues Pills or even of Batushka.

The day started on our side with the set of the British group Nova Twins. Discovered in 2019 in Clisson, we particularly appreciate their musical style mixing rap metal and punk, and the communicative energy of the two leaders, Amy Love et Georgia South. And good news, because the magic still works! This Sunday, June 30, early in the afternoon, the girls of Nova Twins took a good part of the public with them, thanks in particular to their hits “ Antagonist » et « Choose Your Fighter » swung with style and passion on the Mainstage 1.

It’s not easy to replace a group at short notice. However, this is the challenge that the French group agreed to take on Karras. Programmed on theAltar this Sunday afternoon in Caliban’s place, Karras sent heavy. Playing in death metal, even grindcore, the trio created some circle pits really wild under the tent. It must be said that the three members of Karras are not beginners. Quite the contrary. Led by Yann Heurtaux (Mass Hysteria), Diego Janson (Sickbag) et Etienne Sarthou (AqME) Karras really shook up the Altar stage this Sunday.

Another scene, another atmosphere with the Swedish group Blues Pills on the Mainstage 1. Much less frenetic than some groups scheduled at Hellfest, Blues Pills nevertheless managed to take us into his world mixing blues and rock’n’roll from the 70’s. Carried by the powerful and melancholic voice ofElin Larsson and by its vintage pieces, Blues Pills has captured our hearts and ears!

The teenage music that marked an entire generation has been invited to the Mainstage 2 this Sunday, June 30 with the arrival of the Canadians of Simple Plan. Unsurprisingly, memories came flooding back for many of the festival-goers present for the occasion, thanks to hits like ” I’m Just a Kid » et « Perfect ”, and short covers like “ Sk8er Boi » by Avril Lavigne and « Mr. Brightside “. Despite the undeniable good humor of its members and the balloons thrown into the audience, boredom unfortunately crept in for us during this set.

Au Hellfest, you can listen to blues rock, grindcore and punk in the same day, but also liturgical chants intertwined with black metal. The proof with this surprising and successful set of Batushka. Scheduled under Templethis Polish group offered festival-goers an ultra-careful scenography with coffin, skull, lighting of candles and black outfits. The faces of each member present on stage were also hidden under a hood and behind a black veil. Created by Krzysztof Drabikowski, Batushka thus offered lovers of sound and visual experiences a timeless moment.

The Ferris wheel Hellfest : this is an unmissable event to Clisson which brings joy to many festival-goers every year. It must be said that this Ferris wheel (accessible at a price of 6 euros) peaks at 40 meters high, and allows metalheads who dare to try the experience of discovering the Hellfest from another angle. Once at the top, you can admire the sublime sculpture in homage to Lemmy Kilmister, with the Warzone and the Valley next to it, but also have a glimpse of what is happening on the Mainstages.

The Hellfest, there are also many food stalls. A total of 42 food stalls are spread across four different areas throughout the festival. Something to satisfy both small and large appetites by offering burgers, Asian cuisine, pizzas and even ice creams. Diversity is therefore on the program every year at the HellfestIn a few figures, more than 80% of the stands offer vegetarian options as well as vegan (30%), homemade (80%) and of French origin (80%).

But what happened with ††† Crosses ? Initially scheduled for the Valley at 7:45 p.m., the duo formed by Chino Moreno (Deftones, Team Sleep, Palms) et Shaun Lopez (singer of Feu-Far) finally took the stage more than three-quarters of an hour late. Unfortunately for the fans, who had the courage to wait, Crosses had no choice but to offer a very shortened set of about 15 to 20 minutes. But that didn’t stop the duo from revealing to the public their captivating universe mixing electro and rock. However, we would have appreciated that Crosses is surrounded by several other musicians live, just to bring more depth to the stage side. To thank the fans for waiting a long time, Chino Moreno took a little walkabout, going to greet and shake a few hands in the audience at the end of the set.

Crosses hasn’t finished his set yet, but Madball doesn’t take long to go on stage on time, not far away, on the famous Warzone. As always on this scene dedicated to hardcore and punk, pogos and slams follow one another throughout the day. Which didn’t displease the New Yorkers from Madball who delivered an energetic and high-energy set.

Until then, the Hellfest had accustomed its festival-goers to enjoying an incredible fireworks display at the end of the event. This Sunday evening, while the Foo Fighters finished their live performance around 11:50 p.m., many of them waited until midnight, thinking of attending the traditional fireworks show. Unfortunately for them, no fireworks this Sunday evening. So, to console themselves, several of them extended the moment on the site in order to admire the flames which flare up every evening and illuminate the incredible scenery of the site.
The Hellfest miss you already? Good news, since a festival dedicated to extreme music announces its return to Clisson in 2025!
