A 42-year-old man was shot and injured in an apartment building in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, in Montreal.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) was alerted around 3:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired in a residential building on Bossuet Street, near Sherbrooke Street.

Police officers dispatched to the scene located the victim injured in the upper body by firearm projectiles, said SPVM spokesperson Mariane Allaire-Morin.
The 42-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
According to initial information, the suspect entered the building to open fire on the victim before fleeing.

At least one shell casing was found on the ground by police who cordoned off the area to try to arrest the suspect, it was said.
The canine unit has been mobilized on site and investigators are already working on site to analyze the scene and try to establish the circumstances of this attempted murder.
