The announced three-way race will not take place in the 5th constituency of Haute-Garonne (Launaguet, Fronton, Villemur, etc.), that of North Toulouse, where the departmental boss of the RN Julien Leonardelli, came very far in the lead on Sunday June 30, 2024, while participation was high in this territory (71.94%).

The RN at almost 40% in North Toulouse

With 39.52% of the votesJulien Leonardelli is ahead of more than ten points his two pursuers: the outgoing one (Horizons, presidential majority) Jean-François Portarrieu, which culminates at 29,43 %, and the LFI candidate supported by the New Popular Front, Sylvie Espagnolle, who earns 27,66 %.

Newly elected European deputy, Julien Leonardelli – who will leave his mandate in Brussels if he is elected to the National Assembly – hit very hard on Sunday, coming first in almost all municipalities of the constituency. Jean-François Portarrieu is only a short head ahead of him in three of them, and Sylvie Espagnele in only one (Launaguet). With 29,897 votes (around 9,000 more than the LFI candidate, who came 2nd in 2022), the municipal councilor of Fronton wins 17,000 votes In two years.

“The RN’s score is extremely worrying,” says Sylvie Espagnolle

“I am withdrawing in view of the score you RN in the constituency,” announces Sylvie Espagnolle to Toulouse Newswhile the trifecta that came first crossed swords for the third time (after the Legislative elections of 2017 and 2022) in this territory where the party of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella wins more and more voicesfrom election to election.

Julien Leonardelli’s score is extremely worrying and there is a big risk that the situation will tip over to RN if we do nothing. So we take our responsibilities and withdraw.

“The opposite would not have been true” says Espagne, who tackles Portarrieu

By the way, Sylvie Espagnolle is not missing to criticize the outgoing MPof whom she is convinced that he would not have done the same: “I withdraw, even if I think that the reverse would not have been true.”

Jean-François Portarrieu, who is slightly ahead of me, would not have withdrawn if it had been the other way around. He spent his time putting the RN and the New Popular Front back to back, it’s scandalous. He is in the position of Édouard Philippe who is unworthy (the latter called on his candidates who came 3rd to withdraw to block the RN candidates but also LFI, Editor’s note).

She does not go so far as to call for a vote Together

Sylvie Espagnolle is thus following the instructions of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who indicated on Sunday evening that “in accordance with our principles and our constant positions in all previous elections, and in the event that the RN comes out on top while we are in third position, we will withdraw our candidacy.”

When questioned, the LFI candidate does not, however, clearly call for voting for the candidate of the presidential majority, but she takes up the line of her political party: “I appeal to our 20,000 voters not to give no voice in the RN”.
