While the participation rate for the first round of voting reached 66.71%, several hundred thousand proxies could be filed during this week for the second round.

A decisive meeting for the future of the country. After the wave of the National Rally on Sunday, June 30, during the first round of the early legislative elections, during which the far-right party collected 33.14% of the votes, the candidates still in the running are sharpening arguments and programs for their duels, triangular or, in some cases, quadrangular.

Another important figure from this election weekend is that of participation, which stands at 66.71%, far ahead of the figure for the 2022 legislative elections, which had then barely reached 47.51%. Next Sunday, for the second round, participation should also be significant.

First step online

If you cannot go to the polling station in person in less than a week, it is still possible to submit a proxy, as for every election.

To do this, firstly, you should go to the site www.maprocuration.gouv.fr. Then connect to France Connect via one of these accounts: Taxes, Health Insurance, La Poste digital identity, Mutualité sociale agricole, Yris or France identity.

There, you will then have access to a registration form where you will need to provide your personal details and those of the person you designate to vote in your place.

The latter must be registered on the electoral lists, but not necessarily in the same municipality as you. However, she will have to come to your polling station to cast the ballot on your behalf.

Validation at a police station or gendarmerie

Once this first step has been completed, you must then go personally to a police station, a gendarmerie brigade or to a place open to the public as defined by the prefect.

You will be asked for proof of identity, in addition to your form, your voter number, the contact details of the person to whom you are making a proxy, as well as the reference of your request received by e-mail. You will then receive a receipt for your request.

Alternatively, you can download the proxy request form from the website service-public.fr, print it and complete the information in writing. The form also allows you to reconsider your power of attorney request if you change your mind. Otherwise, it is also possible, despite a proxy, to finally vote, provided that your proxy has not already placed your ballot in the ballot box.

If you are unable to travel to validate your power of attorney, you can ask a police officer or gendarme to come to your home exceptionally to verify your identity.

“As soon as possible”

In terms of deadlines, the Ministry of the Interior states on its website that “there is no deadline for establishing voting proxies. Proxies can be established at any time.”

However, it recommends “making the proxy as soon as possible, because of the delays in sending and processing the proxy”. “Indeed, you risk not being able to vote if the town hall does not receive your proxy in time or if it does not have the necessary time to take it into account”, warns the ministry.

For the first round of voting, Beauvau told BFMTV that as of June 29, the day before the vote, 2.78 million proxies had been registered by the Ministry of the Interior, 3.9 times more than for the 2022 legislative elections (over the 20 days preceding the vote).
