Türkiye: Five dead, 60 injured in natural gas explosion in Izmir
A natural gas explosion in Izmir province in western Turkey on Sunday, June 30, left five people dead and at least 60 injured.

The explosion was caused by a gas leak, according to initial information provided by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. |

According to public broadcaster TRT, the explosion occurred at 2:43 p.m. local time (11:43 a.m. GMT) in a company on the ground floor of a building in the Torbali district. At least ten people are in critical condition.
Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban told TRT that this explosion damaged eleven buildings. “As a precautionary measure, the gas supply has been cut off and this area is being evacuated. Our security forces have taken the necessary measures”he assured.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said on social media that an investigation had been launched in coordination with two prosecutors.
