Accidented, the suspect's car was found in a field this Thursday, November 21 in the early morning. He was arrested at the vehicle's owner's house in Lunel-Viel, completely drunk.
During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, November 21, around 2 a.m., a man driving a Citroën C4, with three other passengers on board, refused to comply with the orders of the gendarmes of the La brigade. Grande-Motte who were carrying out a routine traffic check.
The accused stopped but when the soldiers approached him, he passed first and fled.
The gendarmes immediately triggered their sound and light alarms but the driver did not stop and continued his mad rush towards the two-lane road which leads on one side towards Lunel and on the other towards Montpellier.
To cover his tracks, he swerved more and more and, suddenly, he disappeared into the darkness.
Abandoned car in a field
The soldiers intensified their searches during the night but were unable to get their hands on him. It was only in the early morning that they found the said vehicle damaged and abandoned in a field at the exit of La Grande-Motte towards Montpellier.
The police then went to Lunel-Viel, to the home of the owner of the vehicle, to question her. And it was finally at her home that they came across the main suspect. In this case, a 32-year-old man, completely drunk.
Summoned to appear in court in February 2025
Arrested immediately, he was placed in police custody where he admitted the entirety of the facts with which he was accused.
Referred to the Montpellier public prosecutor's office, he was finally placed under judicial supervision. He will be summoned to court as part of an appearance on prior admission of guilt next February before the Montpellier criminal court.
