Four young people in hospital after a nighttime accident in Plouénan

It was around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Friday 28 to Saturday 29 June 2024 when a couple living in Plouénan were abruptly awakened by a loud noise: a car had just crashed into the wall of their house. On board were four young people, aged 19 to 22, who were out in the evening and were helped by the owners of the house while waiting for the Saint-Pol-de-Léon firefighters to arrive.

Leaving the road on a 90° bend

According to initial findings, the vehicle, the only one involved, left the road in a 90-degree bend, in a residential area, just after the town’s Super U. In its course, the vehicle first hit a low wall, then seriously damaged the house owner’s cars, before stopping against the wall of the house. The mayor of Plouénan, Aline Chevaucher, went to the scene of the accident, then the passengers were taken to the Morlaix country hospital center for safety.

“Fortunately, the young people got off well, and there were no serious injuries after this accident, which was probably caused by excessive speed and alcohol, and could have ended badly,” commented the squadron leader of the Plourin-lès-Morlaix gendarmerie, Marion d’Herouville, reminding people to be vigilant on the roads “during this period of the end of exams and the start of the holidays, when many young people are getting behind the wheel to go partying: the one who drives is the one who doesn’t drink!”

A gendarmerie investigation, led by the COB of Saint-Pol-de-Léon, is underway. The driver, tested positive for alcohol, will be summoned to court later.
