After the discovery of an anti-Semitic tag on the door of a building in , the city filed a complaint. A graffiti with “gas chamber for rent” indicated was erased but photos taken circulated on social networks and in the press.

The city of Rouen filed a complaint after the discovery of an anti-Semitic tag on a building door, photographs of which were published, Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol announced on Friday. In a letter dated November 21 and addressed to the public prosecutor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol announces that he is filing a complaint on behalf of the City. The town hall was informed on November 15 of “anti-Semitic graffiti painted on the door of a building” located in the city center, he said.

A graffiti, apology for “crime against humanity”

This graffiti, which proclaims “gas chamber for rent”, was erased but “photographs of it were taken and distributed on social networks and in the press”, said the mayor on Thursday evening. “These facts could be repressed as a public insult of a racist nature, but also as an apology for crimes against humanity,” believes Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol.

In May, a 24-year-old man of illegal Algerian nationality set fire to the Rouen synagogue, according to the prosecution. The man threatened a police officer with a knife, who shot and killed the attacker.
