London: after the explosion of a “suspicious package” this morning, Gatwick airport partly evacuated

Part of London's Gatwick Airport was evacuated on Friday after a “security incident”.

“A large part of the South Terminal has been evacuated. This is a precautionary measure while we investigate a security incident”indicated the airport on X, without further details on the nature of the incident. “Passengers cannot enter the South Terminal while waiting (…) We are doing everything to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.”

Around a thousand people found themselves outside the airport.

Sussex Police established a security perimeter after a suspicious item was discovered in luggage.

Around 630 flights are planned this Friday at Gatwick, which is the UK's second busiest airport after London Heathrow.

This alert comes as Friday morning, London police detonated a “suspicious package” near the American embassy in the center of the British capital.
