The price of bicycles is falling sharply at the moment. Demand has fallen, but not production. Result: there are too many copies on the market and prices are cut.
At the moment, prices are low. Manufacturers actually produced a lot to meet demand during the Covid period, except that afterward, sales fell. We must therefore sell off stocks.
“For example, on this bike, we have a very nice discount since we are around 30% on a bike with the latest technologies, with the latest engines and a good battery capacity. There are great deals to be had“, explains Gaetan de Borman, manager of a bicycle store.
Same observation at Sébastien Bertrand, another bicycle salesman: “On all types of bikes, except premium, because there the prices still tend to evolve. But everything that is an electric or non-electric bike, a children's bike, we tend to have a drop of 15% to 30%, it depends on the models.“.
This price drop represents a boon for many customers, including Félix: “We are moving towards another form of mobility, that is certain. And as the price decreases, that will push more people to take the plunge, while there is still a barrier with the weather and the preconceptions that people have, like perspiration or so on.“.
Indeed, this price drop should revive and energize the sector which has seen its sales fall. According to a recent survey, 6 out of 10 bike stores are currently offering discounts of 20% or more.
