Olivier Dubois, the RN candidate, obtained 50.46% of the votes in Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, this Sunday, June 30, 2024, during the first round of the early legislative elections. These results do not surprise Patrick Riehl, the mayor of the town.

“I expected a big score for the RN in my town,” comments Patrick Riehl, elected representative of Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre since 1983, mayor since 1995. “These 50.46% of the votes obtained by the candidate of the National Rally are not a surprise to me.”

In Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, Marine Le Pen reiterates her desire to create a Ministry of Rural Affairs

Saint-Rémy voters had already voted massively for the RN during the European elections of June 9, 2024: the list led by Jordan Bardella obtained 52.8% of the votes.

La figure d’Aleksandar Nikolic

“I think it is a rejection of the policy led by the President of the Republic,” the mayor analyses. “But I also think that in Saint-Rémy, the figure of the city’s RN elected official, Aleksandar Nikolic, also counts.”

“Aleksandar Nikolic, elected RN in Saint-Rémy since 2020, is a well-known figure. For many residents, he is an elected official like any other.”

Patrick Riehl (mayor of Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre)

Aleksandar Nikolic was elected municipal councilor of Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre during the 2020 municipal elections. He also brought Marine Le Pen to the town between the two rounds of the 2022 presidential elections.

“Even though he is also a regional councillor and since 9 June, a Member of the European Parliament, he is very present in Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre. He was here on Sunday 30 June.” The mayor added. “The residents have gotten used to it. Today, he is a well-known figure in the town. For many people from Reims, he is an elected official like any other.”

Patrick Riehl is now waiting for the second round. “We’ll see. But I’m a democrat. If the French want the RN, there will be the RN.”
