A delegation of mayors from Côte-d'Or to the Congress of Mayors: “The municipality… Fortunately!”

A delegation made up of 103 mayors and intercommunal presidents from Côte-d'Or is currently participating in the 106th Congress of Mayors in . Led by Ludovic Rochette, president of AMF 21 (Association of French Mayors of the Côte-d'Or), this delegation joins thousands of elected officials from all over for three days of intense consultation on major themes that affect our communities today.

Placed under the theme “ The commune… Fortunately! », the congress highlights the central role of the municipal bloc in managing crises and the daily challenges of citizens. The 2020-2026 mandate began against the backdrop of a global health crisis, followed by the energy crisis, and highlighted the effectiveness of the local level. In Côte-d'Or, these are the 698 municipalities which have proven their capacity for adaptation and their commitment to meeting the urgent needs of residents.

During these three days at the Porte de Exhibition Centre, elected officials address crucial subjects such as security, the fight against climate change, and even the medical presence in the region. Particular emphasis is also placed on the question of rurality, an issue dear to the municipalities of the Côte-d'Or, which work on a daily basis to maintain a quality of life and services for their inhabitants.

The current political context, marked by the debates in Parliament on the Finance Bill, also weighs on the discussions of this congress. The mayors present are impatiently awaiting the intervention of the Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, who will come to close this 106th Congress. The comments of the head of government will be scrutinized, as the expectations of elected officials are high in terms of financial support for communities, particularly those faced with budgetary constraints and the need to successfully complete the ecological transition.

After this Parisian edition of the Congress of Mayors, the AMF 21 will meet all its members, as well as all elected officials and community services in the department, on December 12 and 13 in , for the Salon of Mayors of the Côte-d'Or. This event will be a new opportunity to share and reflect on local issues and to strengthen links between elected officials in the region.

In a context of profound changes, where the municipality must constantly adapt, this congress recalls the importance of the municipal level as a pillar of the Republic. The municipality is and remains, fortunately, a leading player in meeting the expectations of our fellow citizens.
