Notre-Dame: the construction site of the century in figures
Notre-Dame is due to reopen its doors on December 7, after five years of colossal reconstruction following the fire which ravaged it in 2019. Arthur Le Meur, columnist and apprentice journalist, takes some figures from a construction site colossal.

Notre-Dame is due to reopen its doors on December 7, after five years of colossal reconstruction following the fire which ravaged it in 2019. Arthur Le Meur, columnist and apprentice journalist, takes some figures from a construction site colossal.
The first notable figure for this project is the sum of donations collected: more than 840 million euros for the renovation of the cathedral. In other words, there are nearly 340,000 donors across 150 countries around the world. The construction site is out of the ordinary. For example, the spire required scaffolding almost 100 meters high. In total, with the framework, there are 70,000 parts for a weight of 600 tonnes. Nearly 2000 oak trees were needed to rebuild this ensemble.
2,000 companions worked on the renovation of the cathedral, but also artisan carpenters, stonemasons, sculptors, they accomplished meticulous work. For example, to clean the 8,000 organ pipes covered in lead dust following the fire. The objective: to rediscover the original sound of this legendary instrument.
