A man suspected of having killed a municipal agent in Grenoble in September was arrested this Thursday, November 21 in Portugal. Checks are underway to ensure his identity, said the prosecutor of the Alpine town.
Verifications are in progress. A man suspected of having killed Lilian Dejan, a municipal employee in Grenoble (Rhône-Alpes), on September 8, was arrested this Thursday, November 21 in Portugal. Investigators are currently carrying out checks to ensure his identity, said Alpine town prosecutor Eric Vaillant.
“A man likely to be Abdoul Diallo”suspected of the murder of Lilian Dejean, “has just been arrested in Portugal under the European arrest warrant” issued after the tragedy, Eric Vaillant told the press. “Checks are underway to ensure the identity of the person arrested,” he added. The courts announced that a European arrest warrant had been issued on September 16 against the suspect on the run.
Lilian Dejan, municipal employee of the city of Grenoble, was shot dead in the street on Sunday September 8 while he tried to prevent a man who had caused a traffic accident from fleeing. Born in Valence (Drôme), Lilian Dejean grew up in the Olympic Village district, in the south of Grenoble, where he was still living at the time of his death. He was a team leader in the city's cleanliness department, where he had worked for more than twenty years. He was also one of the executives of the local CGT – who raised nearly 30,000 euros in a fundraiser launched to support his wife and two children.
The suspect known to the courts for “theft, violence and drug trafficking”
The suspect, aged 25, whose identity document was found in the Audi RS3 registered in Poland which he abandoned on site, has since been actively sought. The man was known to the courts in particular for “theft, violence and drug trafficking” and for having beaten, with five fellow prisoners, another prisoner at the Varces remand center (Isère) in June 2023. Information judicial was opened on September 11 to find him.
The Alpine metropolis experienced a summer marked by numerous shootings between drug traffickers. At least 17 episodes of gun violence have been recorded in the territory since the start of the year and the authorities no longer hesitate to talk about “gang war”.
