It is still unclear how the fight broke out. But we seem to guess who caused it. On the night of November 18 to 19, two people, one of whom was on a bicycle, were accosted in the city center of Rennes by three young individuals from Mayotte. For a reason “which at this stage remains to be established”, one of the three attackers stabbed the 25-year-old cyclist in the abdomen. The victim and his friend were able to escape and be taken care of by the firefighters near rue Nantaise, at the bottom of Place des Lices. The attackers stole the bike and fled, before being arrested by the BAC shortly after.
According to national police investigators, two of the three attackers involved are suspected of another attempted murder. On November 2, they attacked a man at the exit of the Carrefour Express on Place Anne-de-Bretagne. “Several individuals attacked a man, for another unidentified reason, one of the attackers stabbed the victim five times, for which the ITT was set at 10 days,” explains prosecutor Frédéric Teillet.
Two men in pre-trial detention
The magistrate specifies that “two of the three people in police custody were able to be identified by the investigators as having participated in these events, including the author of the stabbing”.
They were indicted for attempted murder and gang robbery. Two of the three men were placed in pre-trial detention, the third was placed under judicial supervision. “Two are unknown to the courts, the third having been tried for theft by the Mamoudzou children’s court [préfecture de Mayotte] », Specifies the prosecutor.
