A 600 m² agricultural shed housing more than 200 goats was ravaged by flames in Alex, in Haute-Savoie, on the night of Wednesday November 20 to Thursday November 21. Despite the rapid arrival of firefighters on the scene, the animals could not be saved.
In Alex (Haute-Savoie), 210 goats died during the fire in an agricultural shed on the night of Wednesday November 20 to Thursday November 21.
The 600 m² building housed a stable, a hay storage space and a home. When the firefighters arrived, around half past midnight, and despite the mobilization of 48 men, four fire intervention vehicles and a victim assistance vehicle: the entire structure had already been ravaged by the flames, according to information from France Bleu Pays de Savoie and confirmed by BFMTV.com.
A building that is difficult to access
“Near the burning building, another 200 m² hay storage space was directly threatened. We intervened directly on this second shed, in order to prevent the fire from spreading even further,” confides Rémi Viard, door – spokesperson for the Haute-Savoie departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS 74), at BFMTV.com.
“We also had to face several operational difficulties during the intervention, such as low water capacity, given the geographical location of the hangar,” he added.
On site, this Thursday, November 21, the SDIS 74 teams continued their efforts to contain the fire. The residents were brought to safety.
