“The United States is complicit in all these atrocities. We are financing these atrocities and this complicity must end,” he urged.
The resolutions voted on Wednesday would have blocked the Pentagon from sending a new $20 billion package to Israel.
They all failed to be adopted, a large number of elected officials displaying unwavering support for Israel, a historic ally of the United States.
Republican tenor Mitch McConnell estimated that blocking this arms sale “would only strengthen and embolden terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.”
During his speech on Wednesday, Bernie Sanders took some of his colleagues directly to task.
“Many of you come here to talk about human rights and what is happening in the world, but I want to tell you that no one will take you seriously anymore,” he said.
“They will tell you ‘you are worried about China, Russia and Iran. Well why are you financing the starvation of children in Gaza?'”.
