In Luxembourg: A fire at the International School of Differdange, classes canceled Thursday

A strong smell of burning hovered around the Differdange International School on Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. Several fire and police vehicles were on site. A fire broke out early in the evening in a garbage room located in the courtyard of the school.

The flames took over the place, as shown in photos sent by a reader of The essentials. “I was in Luxembourgish classes at the international school,” says Yasmina. “It was 7:50 p.m. when we saw the trash cans catch fire. We were then asked to leave. Then the police and firefighters arrived.”

A few minutes later, shortly before 9 p.m., the fire had calmed down, but the firefighters still had to enter the small building to get an idea of the extent of the damage and finish controlling the fire, which seems not to have been made injured. Around 10 p.m., the fire was completely extinguished and the device had been lifted, no firefighter or police officer being visible on site.

The government indicated at the end of the evening that due to the disaster, “all primary and secondary school classes” at the International School in Differdange “are canceled for the day of Thursday, November 21.” The ministry specifies that “the school buildings on the campus were not reached”. But, “for safety reasons, the power had to be cut off and checks will take place throughout the day” on Thursday.
