During the Wimbledon tournament qualifiers, Maxime Janvier, a French player ranked 225th in the world, made headlines on Wednesday June 26 when he qualified for the third round.

That’s a funny reaction. This Wednesday, June 27, during the second round of Wimbledon qualifying, Frenchman Maxime Janvier surprised the spectators present at courtside as well as tennis fans on social networks. The reason ? When converting his match point against the American Émiliano Nava, the 225th player in the ATP ranking shouted “For the money! The money! Just that!”

“Home! Home!”

A surprising sentence but one that says a lot about the financial difficulties faced by secondary circuit players. For Maxime Janvier, this victory ensures that he pockets at least 47,000 euros. A sum much larger than his entire earnings since the start of 2024 (32,500 euros since January 1). A real sigh of relief therefore, in a very financially difficult sport.

“Home! Home!”

Maxime Janvier clearly already knows what he will do with his prize money after qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon.

Better yet: this Thursday, June 27, the day after this sequence which caused a lot of reaction, Maxime Janvier did it again when celebrating his new victory, this time against the Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard. Now assured of receiving at least 70,000 euros thanks to his qualification for the main draw of the London grand slam, the French player made a new reference to his winnings by shouting “Home! Home!” Just another way of announcing what this money will be used for.
