ChatGPT’s French competitor receives a major update

The artificial intelligence of the French startup Mistral does not want to be left behind by the competition and welcomes major new features.

A few million euros raised later, Le Chat is getting a makeover. Mistral’s AI-powered chatbot is strengthening with two new features now considered essential, namely web search and a creation space.

Mistral lifts the sail with online research

A few weeks after OpenAI launched SearchGPT, Mistral followed suit and integrated web search into Le Chat. A feature aimed at improving the relevance of responses generated by artificial intelligence, which is now capable of probing the Internet to make fewer errors and therefore prove more useful on a daily basis.

Chat obviously cites its sources and even allows you to generate short quotes to share in one click. To obtain more information on the desired subject, you can obviously click on the numerous links provided to visit the web page(s) on which Le Chat has found its information.

The other new feature, Canvas, presents itself as a space dedicated to creation. Here again, this is a feature already seen among the competition. But it is also unmissable for Mistral, which wants to be able to attract editors and developers into its net. This creation space allows you to interact more directly with AI-generated content in order to correct it or take it in another direction.

A new version accessible for free

Chat and all the new features presented in this article are now accessible free of charge to all Internet users. An account is simply required to access the chatbot, but no subscription is (yet) necessary to try the tool and see how it performs compared to ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot, to name a few.

For the moment, Mistral is effectively financing itself through significant fundraising and has the ear of the government in an attempt to establish itself as THE French reference in artificial intelligence.

Chat is accessible from a browser at this address. No application is yet available on smartphones, but you can access the chatbot via aggregators like Hugging Chat.
