The General Council, meeting this Monday, November 18, made crucial decisions concerning significant investments for the renovation of the municipality’s infrastructure as well as for the future of the Barak association. The PLR approved these investments.
A major investment for road safety in Couvet
The General Council discussed major projects, notably the repair of the Couvet crossing, the central point of the session. With a forecast budget of nearly six million francs, this project marks the first stage of a vast regional project aimed at sustainably transforming roads and improving user safety. This project is part of a larger whole, with upcoming repairs for Môtiers and Fleurier, which will also require adequate funding. The PLR group, aware of the importance of this work for residents, mainly supported this credit. The amount voted represents all costs, which will be reduced thanks to reimbursements and cantonal support.
Barak: integration in continuity
Another key point was the internalization of the Barak association within the municipality. This decision follows a significant deterioration in the financial situation of the association, requiring increased support from the municipality. The integration of Barak into municipal services will allow better control of expenses and more efficient organization, replacing the cost of CHF 10.- per inhabitant.
To guarantee the transparency and effectiveness of this integration, the PLR group requested the addition of a point to the regulations, including a report before establishing the municipal budget to monitor the evolution of the association and evaluate the affluence. This monitoring will be crucial to adjust schedules and support objectives, ensuring that the needs of young people remain at the forefront.
In addition, the integration of the Barak building into the municipal heritage for a symbolic amount of CHF 1.- represents a valuable opportunity. The old gallery on the first floor could be transformed into a rental room for various associations, thus strengthening the local associative fabric.
Concerning the motions of the Socialist and Agora parties, the PLR group chose not to oppose them. These motions, relating to the provision of public toilets and financial support for transport for students, deserve particular attention.
In conclusion
The coming months will be marked by several projects requiring massive investments. The repair of village crossings and other expenses essential to the well-being of the community will be at the heart of the PLR group’s concerns. Although the group is fighting for the attractiveness of the municipality, cost control and
current economic situation will sometimes place the group in delicate situations.
