Baugé-en-Anjou. “City committed to green gas”, a first in Maine-et-

This November 20, Philippe Chalopin, mayor of Baugé-en-Anjou and François Xavier Olivieri, GRDF general secretary signed a partnership agreement entitled “City committed to green gas” on the occasion of the Salon des Maires de . “This operation shows that the municipality is part of an approach to energy sobriety and the development of local renewable energies. The municipality has achieved gas autonomy thanks to the production of green gas from the two methanization units located in Baugé-en-Anjou and the surrounding area.underlines the municipality. If the commune of Baugé-en-Anjou has been served with gas since 2001, it is since the beginning of 2024 that the commune has been supplied with green gas throughout the year. “It is a real opportunity for customers connected to the gas network to be able to benefit from this carbon-free green gas on a daily basis and to concretely enter into the implementation of the ecological transition”. 877 houses, businesses and municipal buildings are currently connected to the 34 kilometers of gas network operated by GRDF. This green gas is 100% compatible with existing installations. The Baugé Agri Methane and Noyant Bio Energies sites together produce 28.5 GWh of renewable gas per year, injected directly into the gas network operated by GRDF. These methanization units cover more than 100% of the municipality's gas consumption, or 23.9 GWh per year. The surplus green gas production from these two sites supplies the Métropole urban community. To highlight this approach, 10 “City committed to green gas” signs will be positioned at the entrances to the town of Baugé and Vieil Baugé. These signs were officially installed during the month of November.

A partnership that goes further

The collaboration between GRDF and the commune of Baugé-en-Anjou goes further! Indeed, the two actors are committed to carrying out various actions in the years to come in favor of the energy transition. First of all, with educational awareness and information actions aimed at primary school students (CM1-CM2 level) in the municipality. GRDF intends to acculturate students to renewable energies with, in addition, a visit to one of the two methanization units supplying the town with green gas. GRDF will also support the inhabitants of Baugé-en-Anjou already connected to the gas network through a “Transition+” action including the organization of public meetings and on-call services. These times will be organized for the purposes of supporting energy sobriety actions, information on efficient gas solutions and the proposal of different energy conversion offers for connection to the gas network, as well as solutions to support the replacement of gas boilers with very high energy performance boilers or hybrid heat pumps. Another action proposed by GRDF will consist of supporting the municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou in its control of gas energy. GRDF will analyze gas consumption data on municipal buildings in order to see if energy management actions can be implemented, or if the municipality's actions are already effective. “Our municipality proudly displays its “City committed to green gas” label, illustrating its commitment to the circular economy and its desire to develop local production of green gas for energy autonomy. Our residents do not always know that their gas equipment is compatible with green gas. The services offered by GRDF in partnership with the town of Baugé-en-Anjou also make it possible to inform local residents that they are already benefiting from this renewable energy in their homes. specifies Philippe Chalopin, Mayor of Baugé-en-Anjou.
