Former two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor would like to see Jon Jones face Tom Aspinall. The Irishman is going for 'Bones'.
Another easy fight for Jon Jones? For several months, fans have been calling for the clash against Tom Aspinall. The latter won the interim heavyweight title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich on November 11, 2023, the same day Jones was scheduled to defend his title against Stipe Miocic but was unable to do so due to a torn pectoral . This weekend, 'Bones' finally retained his title which he obtained by defeating Ciryl Gane on March 5, 2023 with a big TKO over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
The undisputed heavyweight champion now wants a fight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, but fans and UFC president Dana White want to see him against Tom Aspinall. If some think that the Briton would make short work of Jones, others think the opposite. This is the case of the 'Notorious', Conor McGregor.
Conor McGregor defends Jon Jones against Aspinall
In a message posted on X (and since deleted, as usual), Conor McGregor explained that he had watched the images of a sparring between Tom Aspinall and Glory Kickboxing heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven. According to the Irishman, there are loopholes that Jon Jones could exploit: “The footage showing him (Tom Aspinall) in a terrible state facing Rico Verhoeven is good for Jon to watch. I am seduced by this fight, I think it should take place” a écrit Conor McGregor.
'Bones' is known for reading his opponents' style before facing them, then methodically dismantling them in the octagon. Faced with Tom Aspinall, 31 years old, 1 meter 96 and 116 kg, wouldn't the step be too high for Jon Jones, 37 years old, 1 meter 93 and 107 kg? We'll never know unless these two men sign a contract and compete in the cage. One thing is certain, this opposition intrigues more than one.
