The President of the Republic spoke from Brazil where the G20 is being held and while the Russian president has expanded the possibilities of using nuclear weapons.
A “worrying” development in the conflict. Emmanuel Macron spoke this Tuesday, November 19 and reacted to the new military escalation between Russia and Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin has expanded the possibilities for the use of nuclear weapons by his country which was hit by long-range American missiles fired by Ukraine.
“I call on Russia and Mr. Putin for reason and collective de-escalation,” declared Emmanuel Macron from the G20 being held in Brazil.
“It (Russia, Editor’s note) has responsibilities as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council,” Emmanuel Macron told journalists after a G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. “Russia today is becoming a power of global destabilization,” he accused.
Peace 'depends first on Russia'
“That peace will arrive in 2025 is what we all want. It depends first of all on Russia, and that it stops attacking, bombing, killing, invading. And then it depends on the agreement that the protagonists of this conflict will be able to find”, continued the Head of State.
Emmanuel Macron, who met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping earlier in the day on the sidelines of the G20 summit, also said he had asked him to weigh in with Moscow, of which Beijing remains an ally.
“I called on President Xi Jinping to use all his weight, his pressure, his negotiating capacity on President Putin so that he stops the attacks,” he said.
