The firefighters were first called around 5:21 a.m. when a fire was raging in a 7-story apartment building (58 units) on Charest Boulevard West.
On site, firefighters carried out the usual checks and quickly confirmed the presence of smoke on the 2nd floor.
“Residents were evacuated by firefighters as well as police officers,” specifies the Quebec City Fire Protection Service in a press release. The victims were taken care of by a civil security representative and the Red Cross.
Around thirty firefighters were needed to put out the blaze. The responders also carried out, among other things, the ventilation of the premises and the search for victims.
“No person was injured during the intervention. All the occupants were able to re-enter the building with the exception of the apartment on the 2nd floor in which the fire took place.
Fire Commissioner investigators have “reasonable and probable” grounds to believe that there was voluntary human intervention. The investigation was therefore transmitted to the Quebec City Police Department.

Fire on Rue de Dieppe
A second emergency call for a fire was made around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, this time for a fire on the stove of a two-story dwelling (four units) on rue de Dieppe.
“The majority of the flames had been knocked down by the occupants. The firefighters subsequently carried out propagation checks,” explains the Quebec City Fire Protection Service.
The victims were taken care of by the Red Cross while the residents of the other accommodations were able to return to their homes.
The SPCI of Quebec City notes that there was no functional smoke alarm in the home affected by the fire.
“Smoke alarms save lives. A functional smoke alarm less than 10 years old must be installed in all dwellings and rooms of a rooming house,” remind the firefighters.
