Last night firefighters intervened twice for fires. One of the fires occurred at 699 Charest Boulevard West, a building with 58 units. The second fire occurred in a 4-unit building on Dieppe Street.
Intervention at 699 boulevard Charest – A possible arson
Firefighters were alerted around 5:21 a.m. for an alarm operating in an apartment building with 58 units on 7 floors at 699 boulevard Charest, intersection of Marie-de-l’Incarnation, a building belonging to the OMHQ.
On site, they noticed the presence of smoke on the 2nd floor. A few minutes later, two alarms were sounded because there were flames growing on the 2nd floor.
Firefighters, assisted by police officers, evacuated the building.
The intervention was declared under control a little after 6:35 a.m.
No people were injured during the intervention.
All occupants were able to return to the building with the exception of the apartment on the 2nd floor in which the fire took place.
In addition to the accommodation affected by the fire, the rest of the building was able to be reintegrated. Fire Commissioner investigators have reasonable and probable grounds to believe that there was voluntary human intervention.
The investigation was therefore transmitted to the Quebec City Police Department. The intervention ended around 7:23 a.m.
Then second fire intervention for 330, rue de Dieppe
Around 7:42 a.m., the 9-1-1 emergency center was informed of a fire on the stove in a home.
It is a two-story residential building with four units.
The first unit on site confirms that there was a fire in the kitchen of the apartment on the 2nd floor.
The bulk of the flames had been knocked down by the occupants.
Firefighters subsequently carried out propagation checks.
Occupants of the burned home were supported by the Red Cross. The other accommodations were able to be reinstated.
The Fire Commissioner’s investigation showed that it was an accidental fire linked to cooking food. There was no working smoke alarm in the home affected by the fire, said the SPCIQ.

Smoke alarms save lives. A working smoke alarm less than 10 years old must be installed in all dwellings and rooms in a rooming house.
