Mayors of Costa Rican municipalities with less than 3,500 inhabitants have created the Association of Rural Mayors 22, which will allow the territory to become the 88th department represented within the Association of Rural Mayors of France.
The constituent assembly took place in the town hall of Plumieux on Saturday November 16. The mayors or their representatives of the municipalities of La Vicomté-sur-Rance, Le Quiou, Lanrelas, Plounévez-Moëdec, Tréveneuc, Le Cambout and other municipalities in Brittany, were welcomed by Sébastien Quinio, mayor of Plumieux and elected officials. The session was led by Alice Grinand, responsible for developing the national network of the Association of Rural Mayors of France (AMFR), which is made up of associations organized by department.
An independent solidarity network
As a preamble, a round table discussion allowed the councilors to present their municipality before the assembly viewed a message sent to them by Michel Fournier, national president. “Created in 1971, the AMFR brings together nearly 10,000 rural mayors within a solidarity network, completely independent of the authorities and political parties,” he explained. The elected officials then developed the statutes of the new association named by mutual agreement “Association of rural mayors 22”.
The mayor of Quiou elected president
Then the assembly appointed the members of its board of directors. This elected Arnaud Carré, mayor of Le Quiou, to the post of president. “I like working collegially and learning from everyone. I count on my colleagues to guide me. Rurality is as close to my heart as teamwork,” he emphasized. The two vice-presidents are Sandrine Juhel, mayor of Champs-Géraux, and Sébastien Quinio, mayor of Plumieux.
